Following on the success of the much-loved new Mitsubishi Outlander, the all-new 2023 Outlander PHEV adds the same distinctive exterior design crafted under the Japanese 'I-Fu-Do-Do' philosophy. The new Outlander PHEV also uses strong horizontal lines giving it a bold look, with specially designed 18-inch and 20-inch wheels creating a powerful road presence. The 2023 Outlander PHEV will also offer a new elegant two-tone roof option at the highest trim levels and for the first-time massage front seats. Also new will be a standard third-row seat with the total passenger seating capacity now increasing to seven.
Under the hood of the 2023 Outlander PHEV is a new twin electric-motor AWD system with one front-mounted motor at the front axle and one mounted at the rear. The front motor generates 114 hp, up from 80 hp on the previous model, while taking up a similar space within the vehicle, and the rear motor achieves 134 hp, up from 90 hp. The total output from the new twin-electric motors has increased 40 percent over the last-generation Outlander PHEV. This allows for up to 54% more power to the rear wheels to help drivers conquer even the most challenging Canadian winters.
The 2023 Outlander PHEV comes with Mitsubishi's Super-All-Wheel-Control (S-AWC) as standard, which benefits from the electric motor's instant torque response, and delivers drive to the wheels much faster than conventional tail shaft-driven AWD system.
The battery on the 2023 Outlander PHEV is now 20 kWh, 45 percent larger than its predecessor's 13.8-kWh. This means a more fantastic range. The new battery and twin electric motors are mated to a specifically tuned, revised Atkinson cycle 2.4-litre combustion engine.
