3 Most Common Causes of Car Accidents on Road

Each year, thousands of Americans are killed in car accidents, and many more are injured. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that over 35,000 people were killed in car accidents in 2013, while over 3.9 million were injured. About 1.6 million were injured in drunk driving accidents, more than half of the total number of accidents. This means that over a third of the total number of Americans injured in car accidents were injured in drunk driving accidents. Distracted driving

Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is without a doubt the leading cause of car accidents. A distracted driver is not fully focused on the road and is more likely to be distracted by a mobile device, passengers, or even a cheeseburger. When you’re behind the wheel, keep in mind that your only responsibility is to get you where you’re going safely. Drivers who have been driving for a long time and believe they can multitask are the most likely to be distracted. Allowing yourself to fall victim to this thinking is not a good idea.

Reckless Driving

I’m always weaving in and out of traffic. Cutting off other drivers and tailgating. These are all examples of careless driving, and each one has the potential to result in a serious collision. Back off and give them space if you see anyone driving like this near you. Drivers that are careless can be spotted speeding as they weave in and out of traffic, so be cautious when driving and manoeuvring. There is nothing you can do to improve the driver’s safety. Protect yourself and file a complaint against the motorist.

Running Intersections

Another common cause of car accidents is running red lights and stop signs. Stop is indicated in red, and it is not a suggestion for you to follow. If you see a light change yellow, instead of rushing up to “catch” it, slow down. Do not be tempted, as many others are, to run stop signs near your home. Bring your vehicle to a complete stop. It is not worth endangering your life for the extra 10 seconds you will have to wait.
